Our Most Productive Weekend Yet!

What else do you do during the weekend with the longest and coldest nights of the year but get together and stitch. We also had to celebrate Sofie's birthday which we did by meeting on Friday morning at Mill Rose Quilting for some shopping including a browse in their Liberty room.

The Liberty room at MillRose Patchwork Ballan
Lynne was very happy as she found the perfect fabric for the Broderie Perse  inset triangles.

Once we got to Sofie's it was time for show and tell. This was very exciting as Carole had brought her completed and quilted AWS, all she has to do now is the binding.

Absolutely stunning and very inspiring too - we all felt by the time we had to leave on Sunday that it had been our most productive weekend ever! I'm sure seeing this beautiful quilt gave us the impetus to get on and finish our own. We all agreed that the quilting by Katrina Wilson really complimented and added to Carole's fine stitching.  For more pics check out Carole's blog Wheels on the Warrandyte Bus.
Lynne who had been previously caught up in other projects has been hard at it over past few weeks finishing off some of her AWS blocks:

And prepping another -

Here they are all laid out together, a completely different feel to Carole's due to the fabric & colour choices

I have been spending a bit of time on my version of Hearts and Flowers by Kim McLean and have done all the prep for the first border.

As well as starting on another project, more details at a later date.

Sofie has been busy working on her Blue quilt for her son but still managed a few finishes:

She and her hubby spent most of the weekend feeding us and ensuring we were well hydrated! Thank you for the fantastic hospitality.
We soon settled in and got on with the stitching and most importantly the planning. As you can see we worked well into the long winter's night.

Meanwhile we were entertained by Ivy, the latest addition to Sofie's family.

On the Saturday Carole gave a tutorial on her method for preparing Block 24 using the freezer paper and starch method. It helps to create lovely sharp points.

Sofie completed her block the following week

Great work Sofie, love the central star!

Lynne and I prepped a few more blocks

and I finished the border vines for H & F

We all helped Lynne with the final layout of her daughter's quilt

Which could also make a lovely design for a rug for Sofie's room!

Sofie has started planning our next getaway retreat, we are thinking of the coast in early summer, can't wait.

Sadly Dotti who featured in our previous post died suddenly in June which has left a big hole in our family's heart. I'd like to thank my dear friends for all their love and support at this time and also for the thoughtful gifts.

Until next time, happy stitching all.

  2. You all look so well settled in sewing there - and so productive too! The colours of Hearts and flowers look great on that background - really glow. Such a talented bunch :)

  3. I'm so envious! Neither of my sisters sew and it looks like you all have so much fun, as well as making beautiful quilts. I'm so sorry to hear about Dotti--she looked like she was a great sewing room helper.

  4. I was sad to hear that you lost Dotti. I know exactly what you mean about the void they leave behind.

I adore all of the AWS blocks. They are absolutely stunning. The broderie perse fabric Lynne selected is perfect. Can you tell us what line it is from?
